Re: Need a lot of help
Yea I know I ball up right after I take off, do you think it has to do with being under? Also is it better to be out or under? I know being under puts a lot of pressure on your back and it
gives you less time to get back, what does being out do? Also my pole returns way less energy than it used too, even from a five step I'm landing far back even with my grip lower, what should I do? I've started using a 13'150 spirit from a six step, I cleared a bungie at 11'3" or "6 but it feels weird when I go up and it also feels like it's getting ripped out of my hands most of time, I regripped it but won't have a chance to use it again untI thursday. I also used a 13'7 140 today, I was able to get up on it and I landed in the center of the pit but when I tried using a second time I stalled out and came back onto the turf. Supposedly I planted too late but even when I did that on the 13 140 I got into the pit, why is this pole so less forgiving?

No time to answer your other Qs, but being "out" gives you a chance to JUMP on your takeoff ... instead of getting jerked off the ground before you even have a chance to JUMP.

Re: Need a lot of help
Well it's official I can't use the 13' 140 anymore, from a 5 step it's going past 90 degree angle and going more horizontal than vertical. Going to switch poles tomorrow I have a 12'6 160Spirit, 13'7 140 spirit,14' 140 spirit, possibly a 13'7 145 spirit, 14' 145 spirit, 13' 150 spirit 19.8 stiffness rating, 14' 150 spirit, 13' big stick 22 stiffness rating I think. Any help with what pole to use?

About 5'9" and 135 pounds. Started to use the 13'7 from a 6 step but it has a weird bend.

Re: Need a lot of help
Video would help. Your saying that the 13 140 is bending past 90 degrees. Most of that could be because your not jumping vertical enough at take off. But, like i said before, its hard to give an accurate correction without visually seeing the problem. If i were you i would not focus moving to bigger poles or back steps as of yet. Considering most your meets are not big meets, i would see that a more ideal thing to practice is take off, then as you advance, top end from short runs. Meaning 3,4, maximum 5 lefts. Allowing you to get on bigger poles by increasing your technique and not velocity at take off. Learn to jump up, as not jumping up will cause you to incorrectly diagnose a "blow through" on lighter poles, or being shot out because there is no vertical aspect to your jump. Still, videos would help for a more specific and accurate break down of your vaults.

Re: Need a lot of help
I think you need to look more at the first step and pole carry before you look at the vault. try to get taller during your run and get taller at t-o. during the jump stage you need to get a higher plant and hit the chest more so you can be in the right position to swing. once you hit your bottom end right then you can start worrying about the top end. Some suggestions, you should do short approach runs ex:4 rights, 5 rights maybe, your preference. and really work on the t-o and run then take the technique you learn from short and apply it to your long approach. do alot of straight pole 2 hander drills if you know what i mean by those, trying to stay tall and jump up, keeping your hips behind the pole, bubka could do this drill from 2 lefts holding just about 14ft. this drill is the key practice perfection as bubka did and you will get it. other than that, keep working hard it will pay off in the long run.

Re: Need a lot of help
Well had a practice meet on thursday, prd at 11 feet and got 3rd place. Almost got out at 10 feet and pretty much did whatever to get over, then cleared 10'6 and 11' easily but didn't really have a chance at 11'6. Had the jumps filmed until 11' because it started getting dark and you couldnt really see me. My form is still pretty horrible, right when i take off i tuck my trail leg in and then i just get stuck at the top of the pole. Would it be possible for me to just tuck and shoot until i get a better take off and an actual swing? On a 13' 150 from a 6 step by the way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3XIqlIFoT0
Goal for tomorrow: Try to fix how i run with the pole

Re: Need a lot of help
Vaulted today and filmed a few jumps. I've been using a 13' 150 spirit holding at 12'6 running from 70' then i started getting too far back and overbending the pole, but I think thats from how I swing. In this video I weigh about 135 5'9 and i'm running from 58' holding at 12'6 on the 13' 150 spirit pole.

First Jump: Tried to run with the pole lower as you can tell I couldn't do it and then just went for it and ended up walking the first step and was pretty far out and had to bail.
Second Jump: Started off in a good C then my trail leg bent then my legs went together, is it because my bottom arm or do I just have to practice keeping a straight trail leg and holding it?
Third Jump:Did same thing as jump two then my coach said I flagged out and I should be pulling it in so I can cover the pole and so my arm isn't so far away.
Fourth Jump Did same thing as the last two and I guess I didn't pull in again?

Re: Need a lot of help
You are holding too high. You barely landed in the pit on any of those jumps but you were squishing the pole.
Hold 6" lower, you will find it much easier to swing and the pole won't feel so mushy.

Re: Need a lot of help
Viewing your last video, your major mistakes are..... no trailing of the left leg, not jumping up, pulling instead of hanging, and leaning forward during your run.
From what i see, the pole is bending lower than it should be, i warm up on a 13 175 from 3lefts and the sail piece, for a fact on a ucs is not that low as your video is showing. Meaning your not jumping up at takeoff. No trail leg is what youll need to get a lower center of mass and more forward penetration. The circular swing of a left leg allows your mass to stay lower longer to pernetrate the pole to the pit. Hanging will make it harder for swinging. If your arms are long and extended you'll swing easier, as long as you don't block out. Standing up straight not necessarily during your whole run, but at take off, will help correct your plant, and your hanging as long as your stand up and hit the plant.
Looking good though. Keep progressing and it'll all fall into place.
If you look in your last video, frame :22 :33 :40 :48. YOu should still be behind the pole, and long maybe even C.

Re: Need a lot of help
Yea i'm just going to try focusing on my trail leg.
So I should try to be more upright and jump on my take off and that will keep it straight?
