Re: Help with an ideal takeoff
What youre seeing is being patient before swinging up by letting the trail leg become elastic and the opening up of the chest by letting the shoulders rotate back. Some elite vaulters have a free take off so their jump starts with the pole not in the box so if they dont hold that position all hell c...

Vaulting on a rolled Ankle
Bailed a plant and ran through but jacked my foot when it planted into the padding around the box. No swelling or anything and has near painless up and down movement so i would says its probably not a severe sprain or anything. What does hurt is when the foot bends horizontally. I took 4 days off an...

Re: keep going up!
if i may suggest not repeatedly posting the same question in so many threads. People often reply once and you may miss it if youre looking through a dozen threads. Clearing your grip comes from fully inverting but youll probably need a pole that is not soft or overbending as you will never approach ...

Re: need help with form and pole advice
I would definitely say inversion is your problem, however i think you can easily get out of this phase and into near inversion. The second video shows a decent take off, no serious speed reduction and the hands were extended pretty well. Your right leg appears to be driving too but the left leg is j...

Re: Long Leg Swing or Short leg swing?
Thanks for the advice, I've finally seemed to figure out how to maintain the long trail leg through the vault. I built up a significantly faster run over the break to go with it so hopefully things will start clicking. Another question: I'm coaching the junior high kids after i practice and one of t...

Building a high bar
Im sure this question comes up a lot but im considering building high bar (or really just a tall pull up bar) and i was wondering price wise what they usually cost?
If anyone has any tips or suggestions on the best way to build one i'd greatly appreciate it if you could post them here.

Re: Specifics of the vault
High Bar drills worked for me, consciously think about keeping the left leg long and driving the right knee to your right shoulder (that is if you're a right handed vaulter). Do as many bubkas and swing ups as you can. Watch lots of videos of olympians, and make comparisons between your vaults and t...

Re: Advice for Coaching Middle School Kids
The kids had their first meet today, only 2 of our folks decided to compete in the vault. 8th grade girl flew over 7ft and practically cleared 7'6, the 8th grade guy got 8'9" and ran out of grip on his pole so hell be like 9 or 9'6 soon. Thanks for the coaching advice, it was great to see them ...

Re: Another Pole Progression question
So should i attempt to top the 14'6 150 that im on and if it overbends get a 14'6 160 that i would top? I havent bothered with a 7th left yet but it would probably add a lot more speed into the vault (obviously). My goal by the end of summer is to have gotten 15' so i can do track in college, so any...

Another Pole Progression question
've looked at the Skyjumper chart with the poles and for the most part I understand what all is being shown My question is when looking at a particular row of poles, what grip height is being considered (i.e. when you move from a 12' 150 to a 12'6 140, is the imaginary jumper holding at the top for ...

Re: Comments appreciated
Thanks for the input guys! Some things that I am seeing myself do(let me know if im wrong here): Not dropping the head enough overstriding (I take off around 10'6, considering my 2 left hits at about 24 ft id say, thats 7 foot strides...) as tsorenson said, im waiting for the impact of the pole in t...
