University of Albany might need a pole vault coach very soon
Rumor has it that University of Albany may need a pole vault coach very soon. It's a D1 program with several vaulters in the 15-16 range. If you're interested you might want to send a resume to Roberto Vives at rvives@albany.edu

Re: USATF no longer insuring home based facilities
wow, what a bummer. I wonder about something like New York's Flying Circus Pole Vault Club's facility? It's not "home-based" but it's not a school.

Re: Essx vs Spirit
Code: Select all
I don't know if this will help, but for a 14-55, a spirit feels nearly 10lbs stiffer than an essx (non-carbon)

Re: ucs stiffness progression from 430 to 445 - HELP!
Thanks to everyone for their help. I talked with Lane Mastretti of UCS today and this is what he taught me about UCS: 1. You can't analyse the poles by flex numbers the way I was doing it, even though the flex numbers of the 445 are higher than both the 430 and 460, the stiffness is correctly in ran...

Re: ucs stiffness progression from 430 to 445 - HELP!
I have learned that for UCS, flex numbers are measured differently for different length poles, and they can't be compared between different lengths

ucs stiffness progression from 430 to 445
HELP! Can anyone answer the following question.. briefly... in UCS Spirits going from 430 -> 445 -> 460 are you increasing stiffness so the "resistance" is about the same on each pole if you hold around 15cm from the top (at the band) My personal experience is that 15cm of pole makes it ab...

Re: PLANT: top hand or bottom - which holds tight, which rotates
watching Isinbaeva in olympic finals provided plenty of close-up and slow motion replay to show very clearly that Becca is right and Isinbaeva holds tight bottom, loose top. (becca, you're pole vault knowledge is encyclopedic!)

Re: NCAA rules & club practice facilities
I think the NCAA's concern is that high school students cannot attend a college practice. The NCAA doesn't want college coaches trying out / nor training kids at their practices. But... i would guess that a college coach can have a track club and that track club can use the college facilities. I wou...

Re: PLANT: top hand or bottom - which holds tight, which rotates
Tom, You seem to be implying that there's is room for rotation, or a NON-tight-solid-grip, in BOTH hands... I still have trouble wrapping my head around that concept, but... Rick Suhr described something like that to me (but Jenn Suhr said she did tight top hand), Jason Wurster also described someth...

Re: PLANT: top hand or bottom - which holds tight, which rotates
It definitely seems the more popular method is to hold top hand tight. That method does allow you to use sticky substances to "glue" your top hand to the pole. But... you do not have to use a top hand tight method to end up with the soft side of the pole in the correct direction. With top ...
