Re: NCAA Mandates new ASTM Box Collar by Dec 2013

I can't picture it exactly and won't see it until next indoor season. Just remember that I couldn't move it out of the way. May have been glued after being velcroed or really wide/tight velcro that you couldn't peel up from the middle.

Re: NCAA Mandates new ASTM Box Collar by Dec 2013

Has anyone tried to accurately measure the height of the crossbar with one of these collars in place? The one I have dealt with is secured with velcro and glue---it's on there pretty good. As installed, there is no way for your laser or measuring bar to get any purchase on the horizontal surface at ...

Fortunately, there really is no rule change driving their explanation. The author just (mis)interprets it---and did so even before the this years minor change to get rid of "three to five" language.

Re: NFHS Pre-Meet Notes vs. Five-Alive Rotation

I do need to correct myself on one thing. The authors recommendation to "abandon at 8" was for in-between heights. I was responding as if it was an NCAA-style mid-height recommendation. I have no problem with an in-between height abandon rule, but I am set against a mid-height abandon. Goo...

NFHS Pre-Meet Notes vs. Five-Alive Rotation

Is it not enough to have to fight the stupidity and ambiguity in the NFHS rule book? Now they are going out of their way to spread it to other published material. A second front—just what I needed. :( regarding the just-2012 NFHS/USATF Pre-Meet notes http://www.usatf.org/groups/officials/newsletters...

Re: Bad Call on Volzing for a high school girl

"Now any contact with the hand is foul,..." NO--no one has said that. Only steadying (or replacing) with a hand. This is a scenario that could have saved you: OFFICIAL "I'm calling a foul because she touched it with her hand" COACH "Did she steady it?" OFFICIAL "No...

Re: Bad Call on Volzing for a high school girl

Be wary of any cheatsheets or training materials when trying to interpret a rule in this much detail. It is just about impossible to capture all the nuances/context of a rule (much less 3 different rulebook versions of it!!) with anything but a direct quote. For the most part, the training material ...
