Great job Adam! All your hard work is paying off. We missed you yesterday at practice. Melissa is coming regular now if you two want to ride together some  . "Love is in the air, :rose: every where I turn around." Just kidding. LOL You two may not even know each other.
Hope to see you soon!

I vaulted and I am from Raytown South High School in Missouri 1969

One year in the 80's they had 6 top vaulters one at 16'6" +
three at 16'0"
and two at 15'6"
At the district meet you could qualify three vaulters for the state meet of which they did but it left 1 16' and two 15'6' vaulters on the bench. The shame of the situation was more apparent when 4th place was 14' at the state meet.

When we all got together at the Buckingham’s Gardner lake house short run jumping was the thing, you could take more jumps, and we all tried to jump with short steps and shorter handholds for efficiency

Thats similar to Texas, A few years back one school in our district had 2 vaulters at 16' and a 15'6" vaulter and a 15' jumper. There were several other 15'ers as 5th place a district was 15'. Only 2 could make it to regionals and only 2 from regionals could go to state.

Rick Attig, now at Univ of Nebraska was the coach at South Raytown then.

Yes that is correct Rick Attig was the coach at Raytown South that year.

I vaulted in 1969 in the 70's I worked with a few vaulters there and in about 1978 to I think 84 Rick took over as the head coach and PV coach at Ray South before he went to Kansas Univ. as Asst coach.

oh boy do i feel terrible. i almost wish some of those great high school vaulters would move to new mexico and compete at state because they deserve it. from the looks of things, the first place guy in this state goes approx. 15 ffet from there down, and I don't know of a guy who goes over 12! im not joking, how terrible is that? im sure there are a few other good vaulters, and im only talking 5A, but still. Hopefully I'll be going 13 feet this year (my goal is 14, but im trying to stay realistic), and there's a good chance of me being in top 5 in state. its more motivation for me to work harder and deserve the chance to compete at state! i almost want to apologize to all those with extraordinary skill who didnt get a chance to use it while I may get a chance to compete in state while not being as talented.
in terms of old day meets with several vaulters going 16 and 17, a good meet to go to is the Great Southwest, in which i believe the top 2 places in each state compete from NM, CO, TX, and AZ. Its a great meet with talented vaulters. If they hold it again at UNM this year (anyone know where its being held), let me know if you're going, because I will be for sure. (approx. 10 min. away from my house)

Yeah, Great Southwest. I went last year, might go again this season. All depends on what happens, and where all the other meets are and when.
