Try asking service organizations for $ like kiwannas, rotary, lions club, soropomist.

Hey I got that letter too!! I'm 17 and from NJ and I was really excited about going to it... but i don't think it's USATF sanctioned. SOO much money .. so if you just wanna go for an awesome trip tho it will probably be really cool.

I'm pretty sure i'm gonna turn it down tho :(

when my brother was a freshman in high school he got invited to go to australia to run for x-c.......but he wasn't exceptionally fast. My sophomore year in high school i got a letter offering for me to swim down in australia for new mexico, and that's where i knew things went whack. I am a horrible swimmer......i'm sure some of the offers are legitimate, but some of them are just to make $4500 for them....anyone else have this happen to tehm?

With that same money, one could buy a complete matched set of poles and attend a bunch of the major pole vault clinic/camps.

I agree with Wilson on the matched set of poles and camps for that money. The trip isn't about improving your skills though, it's about the experience. They give you an effective way to fundraise for it, so it's not just $4500.00 out of your own pocket. Lots of tourist and educational experience in incredibly beautiful and cultural areas. One of my girls's went, had an incredible time, and would go again. It's not about choosing the best people to go, but they do want moderately competitive people representing us at the meet. The only bad part for my girl was that the airline broke all of my poles on the way back - her dad screamed at them though and got them to reimburse us, so it's all good!
