Sorry to hear about this situation, I hope that all of the vaulters at OU and the ones who where going there all find new homes, man what a bad deal.

I have had quite a bit of interaction with the OU head coach who formally was the U of O head coach and will by me remain un-named here. I have never ever met a more vile, worthless excuse for a human being in my entire life in any situation let alone in track and field. As a member of the track community and specifically the vault community here in Eugene the day he left was a great day for all of us in Eugene. I could tell many stories that most people would find hard to believe about all the horrible things this guy did while he was at U of O. I was amazed that he landed the job at Oklahoma and I truly felt sorry for that program but I never would have guessed that he would stoop to this all time low.

I guess I still have some rather strong feelings/resentments that I needed to publicly get off my chest. Man I hope things finally catch up with that piece of excrement and that he gets what he deserves.

Man Dan, I was expecting your post to tell people to lighten things up a bit.

Let's stop with the name calling and personal attacks for now. The persons involved are not on here to defend themselves and we are violating my "be nice" policy.

They might deserve it, but it's not productive to continue.

Every head coach is supposed to run his program the way he thinks is best. Some put most of their scholarships in distance runners or sprinters, it is up to them. That being said, if OU doesn't want to give scholarships to the pole vault, its their business. However I can't understand why you would run off athletes that are there or that have allready signed with you. Phase out the vault if you choose, but handle it more professionally. I just hate that we have added another college to the list that won't be recruiting pole vaulters.

The only productive thing this should create is no new job offers when OU inevitably fires this guy! Mitch.... ill share my scholarship with you 50/50 if you come to PSU with me :D

You may want to ask your parents before spending their money like that!

I will give free lessons to any of the vaulters or decathletes who were cut from the team. Just send me a message if you want to set something up.

If there is anything the I can do the help the OK vaulters find contacts or need information regardless of the school the may be interested in I'll be happy to help provide that information if I can.. That's really sad and I'm willing to do all I can to assist them..

Chip here...
You guys are rediculous.
There are plenty of places to vault in college.
Dont you understand that its not the money or the school or the environment that determines the vault?

If you want it bad enough you can have it, no matter where you are.

Dont be angry at a man who is doing what he feels is the best for the program.

If anything, its a new lease on life for those vaulters who were comming to OU. You have plenty of time... trust me.

Points are points in meets and nothing else, whether they come from the vault, throws or distance.

And OU has a crappy distance program, OU will be known for throws and jumps before you know it.

This post inspires me to jump again just to prove to you guys that there is life in the vault no matter what organization you jump for.

The death of the OU vault program is a small chip on the shoulders of the sport.

Please dont knock my university for one mans decision.

PS. My injury was not as catastrophic as you think... wait and see

Boomer Sooner
Tuck Fexas

Mitch... chill out, youre young. dont be angry, just friggin man up and go somewhere else... jump for you, not your university.

Lets stop this post ASAP

Chip, I am really sorry if anything anyone said on here caused you problems with your coaches.

Chip i highly respect you and your ability. I hope you keep vaulting. The coach represents the University!! His decision's represent the University!! This was not a good decision!!! Put yourself in Mitch Erickson's position, and the other's that were cut loose. Yes they will find a home hopefully. There were things said and promises made that were not kept. I know what i was told personnally remember they were recruiting my son. I thank the good LORD this happened this year and not next year. Sorry Chip i disagree Good luck in the future.
