It was another great day to pole vault at Cal State Univ Northridge.
Skipper breaks the Pac 10 Pole Vault record too. The old record was Mike Tully UCLA 18' 8.75" 1978. Tim Mack was there to view the competition.

Man he had some room for a 19ft jump easy! I love the way he gets over takeoff, wish the angle of my body was like that at takeoff!
On a whole new level 6-20-09

Skipper's shoes???

Unread postby joel_tien » Sun May 30, 2004 8:34 pm

Does anyone know what kind of shoes Skip was wearing? Just curious, the whole year I have seen Nike Zoom LJ on him and I don't recognize the ones from regionals.

They kinda look like the Nike Zoom lj spikes two models ago.

Yea they're old Nike Zoom LJ's. He was taking off from 14'2" to 14'7". The marks there were in metric, kinda wierd. But on that particular jump it was about 14'7". He hit a couple outside of 15' but didn't turn them up. I've seen him hit a 16' take off before, but not turn it up. Still, just taking off from there takes some big balls.

I guess when you have the kind of blow he does, you can get away with just about everything to some extent. Taking off at 16 is rediculous.......unless of course you are gripping 5.50. Nonetheless, excellent results!

(sarcasm). . . . he must not be physically gifted then. Damn I wish I had some genetics from somewhere. Beam

I was actually thinking the exact same thing. It's ridiculous that he's jumping 575 based entirely on his swing and rockback. Not to sound like a know-it-all or anything, but there is a ton of room for improvement on the transition up the pole, between the rock back position and his top. If he fixed that, who knows. I remember thinking that it looked kinda weird a couple years ago when he was in HS. Nonetheless, definitely raw power and talent. He'll go 6.00 in college and once he's about Hartwig's age, who knows...
