College Transfere

Unread postby CHC04Vault » Tue Mar 15, 2005 9:19 pm

To make everything easier i will give a short bio of me. I graduated from High School last year (2004) and i was accepted to U of San Fransisco, however my family couldn't afford to send me cross country. So this year, i went to a Juco and only took 2 classes (they have a track team). I did my own work and got coaches to notice me, after a college visit (unoffical) i decided i wanted to go to this one school in state in which my family can afford. However, i am not considered a incomin freshman but rather a transfere even though i only have 3 credits. Will i lose a year of eligibity as in can i still redshirt a year, and is there anyway i can be a "freshman" seeing i have not completed 12 credits as of yet???

your "eligibilty clock" hasn't started yet. You should start off clean, like you just came out of high school....

your clock doenst start until you are enrolled in 12 units. So if you transfer with only a few units, you are still considered a Freshman, maybe a Transfer that is a freshman, but Freshman none the less.....

I read the NCAA Eligibilty Bylaw on transfer and they state:
1. Spend at least one full-time semester or one full0time quarter at the 2-year college (excluding summer sessions)
2. Satisfactorily complete an average 12 hour transferable-degree credit acceptable toward any baccalaureate degree program at the Division I school for each full-time semester or quarter attended; AND
3. Have a minimum grade-point average of 2.000.

If all this is true, my 3 credits put me as a part time student hence I lose a year of eligiblity by forced redshirt status...i don't think this is fair, is this all they require???

Where does it say anything about part time student? I think Bjvando is right and your clock has not started ticking yet.

I don't think the NCAA will consider you a transfer, even if your school does.

I think you still have to pass clearinghouse, and be academically eligible when you came out of high school, but I don't think you have lost any eligibility yet. If you started full time next fall, you should still get 4 seasons to compete and 5 more years to do it.

There are specific exceptions to transfer students and you will not have to sit out a year if you meet them. If you get released from your current school, that is if you are on scholarship, you will not be required to sit out a year. Due to the fact that you do not have enough credits to actually say you completed one year of school (required by the NCAA) which is 12 credit hours per semester, you are technically not a sophomore when you transfer. Get in touch with the school you want to transfer to and ask their NCAA representative, or clearinghouse representative. I transfered and was not required to sit out. BUt my transfer was DI to DI, not JUCO to DI.
