West Region
23 guys over 5.05 (29% of nation over 5.05)

*Note- Tommy Skipper and Yoo Kim have only jumped once this year both coming off of injuries.

MidWest Region

I don't really know what is typical... I've only been here for three years now. However, we lost some guys due to graduation, transferring due to program cuts, and other things.

My Freshman year we had 33 guys qualify. Among them were:
Daniel Trosclair
Chris Smith
Rocky Danners
Paul Panning
Pooh Williams
Ray Scotten- now he's at Nebraska

there were other noteworthies, but their names escape me right now. Maybe they can help me out here.

Last year there were 29 guys that qualified.

Trey Hardee- another sweet decath

Now we have 12 guys that have qualified
I'm not going to go through the names, but you can see we lost some serious depth/ power.

yeah you know. us guys from the east and mideast shouldn't even show up. instead of ncaas we can just have a west vs midwest battle. ALL hail west coast. sorry us inferior regions cant be as great as you.

heres something to consider. look how young the east region is. our top 9 or 10, with the exception of brad smith, will all be back next year. and theres more coming up.

i think the west and midwest results are typical... the mideast and east are just on a downswing as far as depth, but the numbers will rise,(that's the only way they can go)... but as of this season, no one can hold a candle to the AR, WR, JWR setters of the 400/200 of the mid-east and east.

I apologize if i sounded a little pig-headed on my statement. As we all know, weather plays a HUGE role..... the west and midwest are very fortunate to have at least 12-15 meets with good weather, as the east and mideast may only get a few meets with good weather....

i should have said that in my previous statement, i meant no harm by putting the western regions above anybody else........

It's cool. I think that the west and midwest are strong. Track is huge in those places. I think it all boils down to the strength of the high school programs in those areas. Pole vault is more of a luxury than a right over here in the east and mid-east, at least in the case of high school programs, and I think that filters up into the college programs too. For example, my conference, the Mid American Conference, has only seven programs that have men's track programs. That is half the programs we used to have. Anyway, we are still proud over here in the East and Mid-East, and we would like to think we have produced some decent vaulters with the tools available to us.

I myself have never had a successful outdoor campaign, so I can't really say much of anything, but I hope that will change this year. ~JRussell
