Does Colorado University of Boulder Have PV Program?

Unread postby MacVaulter » Wed Nov 14, 2007 1:07 am

I was looking at their stats and didn't come across any current pole vaulters. I don't know if this is correct or not, but as I was looking at their past, it seems as though their track program started in 2001 and since then, they've had only a few vaulters. Currently on their roster, there are no vaulters. What is the reasoning behind this? I ask, because I'm considering going there next fall.

Justin Purcell went (goes?) there. He talks about it a little here: http://polevaultpower.com/forum/viewtop ... 2527#52527

I would send him a PM to get the latest scoop.

CU is basically a distance program. I remember seeing some CU vaulters in Reno back in the late 90s but haven't seen a male vaulter since. They did have a female jumping around 11' back around 2002...they had a Czech multis coach so unless he's still there there's no coach with vault experience at all.

Also, judging by your PR (assuming you're male) you need to look at what is scoring points at the conference meet. If you do not have a legitimate shot at scoring points at conference or at least place in the top 12 as a freshman, then most major conference universities won't allow you to walk on.
"You have some interesting coaching theories that seem to have little potential."

Thanks for the info. I know my PR is not enough to go to a DI school right now, but I'm doing quite a bit of off season practice right now. I'm going to jump onto a bigger pole today as well. I hope to get 15' and up by the time April comes around.

If you are serious about vaulting in college then you should look at schools with programs. Even if they let you walk-on at Colorado, you would not have many resources available (particularly coaching, poles) to help you improve.

There are other schools in Colorado that do have programs and certainly plenty of them in the Pacific NW.

The University of Colorado just picked up Lindsey Malone as their new multi and vault coach ... she was the multi and vault coach at Colorado State for a few years and just this year made the move ... "Where her husband is the throws coach" at CU !! .. I took a visit to CSU when Coach Malone was there and she is a very nice, young lady... who for sure knows quite a bit about the multi's and even the vault... she is very energetic and outgoing! and LOVES coaching ... if you really are interested in CU i would def. give coach Malone a call!
It's just you and the bar

I read that she was going to be the CU multi coach, but I didn't see any vaulters under their roster, so that's what made me bring up this discussion. That's good that they're getting someone who knows about vaulting on their coaching staff.

I had the unfortunate pleasure of vaulting at CU during a snowstorm back in 1995. They were holding their cheerleader tryouts at their indoor track, so we couldn't go inside.....
