This is exactly why Tommy jumps high. . . people can break his jump apart and talk about angles this and degrees that. . . but there is a consistant thread in "most" jumpers that jump 5.70 and above. . . it's called 5.10 and 13.0 to 12.0 flex. I'm not certain whether or not it's been done, but it would be nice to find, or if someone could put together a Length pole vs. Flex chart in relation to vaulters weight and speed. I'm curious at most, but personally believe that jumpers that jump higher than 5.70 are on really stiff poles gripping really high. All the technical stuff just helps a vaulter get closer to the ultimate goal of gripping as efficiently high as possible on as stiff a pole as possible.

He has a couple bigger sticks yet that he can break out - the Oregon colored - green and yellow (or was that Packer colors?)

not all of the time though.
Pat manson, Scott Huffman, all jumped on 5 meter sticks and jumped consistantly high on them. I know huffman's AR was on a 5 meter 14.8.
I jumped my first 19' on a 14.8 5 meter gripping about 16'.
Duplantis is another one. The shorter guys have to have better technique!!! to roll poles over to vertical, beam you know that yourself.
The new guys are all bg, tall, and strong.
Walker, skipper, Scott, ect.

Right on Russ throw Joe Dial in there. Short guys that bring on the runway and do alot things right can jump just as high.

RIght on Russ Little guys can jump high on smaller poles, eric eshbach jumped 18'2" in high school only griping 15'., and this year cleared 5.70 gripping 4.90 on a 5 m 12.8

Skipper named Pac-10 newcomer of the year

Oregon freshman Tommy Skipper has been named men’s track and field newcomer of the year in a vote by Pacific-10 Conference coaches.

Skipper won the Pac-10 decathlon and pole vault titles, and was the NCAA outdoor pole vault champion with an effort of 18-8¬.

At the West Regional, Skipper set a school and Pac-10 record by clearing 18-10¬ to win the event. He will be participating in the U.S. Olympic Trials on July 9-11 in Sacramento, Calif.

i was reading on the IAAf website about the Junior Team USA leaders for the junior world champiosnhips in Grosseto and they had skippers name on there. Isnt he to old for juniors?
