Chelsea Johnson, the defending outdoor national champion in the pole vault, strained a hamstring in practice this past week and will not compete for the next several weeks.
The junior hopes to return on Feb. 25 for the MPSF Indoor Championships in Seattle. It is UCLA's final indoor meet before the NCAA Indoor Championships, so Johnson will need to post a qualifying mark to be eligible.
"That shouldn't be a problem for her," UCLA pole vault coach Anthony Curran said.
Johnson, who broke the NCAA record with a 15-foot vault this past April, would be one of the favorites to win the indoor championship in March if she is able to compete.

LIKE OLD TIMES: It was more than a foot shy of her personal best, but UCLA's Chelsea Johnson, the collegiate record-holder in the pole vault, was very satisfied with her 13-foot, 9.25-inch effort on Saturday.
Johnson, who took second place behind former UCLA great Tracy O'Hara, has been hampered by a hamstring injury the past two months, and had not cleared 13 feet in a meet since the U.S. Olympic Trials last July.
"Today was a confidence builder," Johnson said. "I wasn't trying to vault any particular bar. I was trying to come out confident and do the same things technically that I had been doing in practice."
