Pretty close but it depends on how you look at it, I think the big 12 is deeper but the pac 10 has 2 high 18footers so....

This probably won't make any sense but here is the way i look at it. All that talent in the big12 is spread over 12 schools while in the pac10 there are just as many good vaulters within 10 schools. Therefor the pac10 is better. But don't listen to me, im only making this up because im from the west coast and i am a biased person who favors the pac10. ;)
There is no secret to jumping high...It just takes hard work.

it's a tuff one to call....I am bias of course buttttt............ who the heck knows, Iv'e been around the pac 10 the last three years, I dont get a chance to see the big 12 jump much, all I know is that the pac 10 has some technically amazing jumpers when it seems like the big 12 goes of of some amazing speed and power. For the most part that is! Skipper of course is always an exeption!

You may have a point there. A friend of mine who is from Texas, but lived and coached in California for many years used to make a similar observation. He pointed out that the majority of coaches in Texas/Midwest were preaching really old-school technique, all run fast, hold high, get on a huge pole, drive the box hard. Train the hell out of them, get them on the biggest pole possible holding dangerously high and see what happens. By comparison, he noted that California/West Coast coaches were more focused on modern technique, using gradual progressions, promoting safety, and increasing grip efficiency instead of just grip height. Obviously there are exceptions in all cases, but has anyone else noted this trend?

I would agree that there is some athletic freaks who just grip it and rip it in the big12. But there are some good technicians as well. But if some did learn how to pole vault they would go from clearing 5.50 every once in a while to clearing 5.65 consistently.
