WESTFIELD, Mass. – Freshman pole vaulter Craig Hunter shattered both the school and meet record in the pole vault as the Huskies took third place at the 2014 New England Outdoor Championships on Saturday in Massachusetts. Connecticut achieved the feat with a skeleton crew, as final exams left the team short-staffed for the weekend.
Hunter, who was one of three Huskies to register a gold medal on Saturday, cleared a height of over 17 feet (5.30m, 17-04.50) to capture the pole vault. His height handily surpassed the school marker of 5.18 (17-00.00) previously set by Jake Radzevich in 2006 and established a New England Championship meet record. The effort also landed him among some of the best in the country, as his effort currently ranks 36th in the country. Needless to say, the height also represented a new personal-best for the rookie phenom. Tim Murphy added a silver medal finish in the same event, clearing 5.00m.

Re: Hunter Sets Pole Vault Record at New England Championships
I remember vaulting against Jake R. from UConn...Great program up there at UConn & URI in the pole vault. Great job to Hunter on breaking Jake's record.
