where do you hold on the pole

Unread postby VTechVaulter » Sat May 21, 2005 8:46 pm

okay so i know it sounds dumb. but heres what i mean

i just started using 16'9 poles, but i only hold like 15'9 on them. i find the higher sail piece helps me vault more efficiently. just curious as to how close to the top some of you guys hold

ps.. sarafian you might be the only one holding lower from the top than me if u see this. haha. but your still a beast

If you are only gripping 15'9", why not just get stiffer 5 meter poles?

well i know i can hold higher, and ive used the biggest 5.0m weve got. and my caoch really wants me holding much higher and i know i can, just a matter of getting my step out.

but in the mean time. i do really like the way these poles react. the reason we bought them is that last year i was holding 16'. and bob and brian carrel at pacer talked about a reasonable next move

unfortunatly a lack of confidence does rough things to vaulters as im sure many of you know.

The lowest I gripped was 455 on a 5m pole. Now I grip 480 and thinking of getting longer poles. I think you're right because longer poles react differently and when you raise your grip you don't have problems with changing the length of the pole. And from my experience, it's always easier to jump higher with longer poles.

I grip about 15' on 4.90's and about 15'4" on 5.0 m's. I think I really should work on raising my grip

good luck to all you fellas at regionals, make a name for us eascoasters,
