It appears that John Altendorf has done it again! John jumped 3.70 indoors in Kamloops to break Matti's world record. Congratulations JOHN. Next it will be Joe Johnson's outdoor. record.

I was there, but my camera broke, so no video. 3 attempts at 3.70 were probably the only reason why he did not go even higher. John is amazing!

Thanks for your comments. Jodi and I took some time after the meet to do site seeing and visiting friends on the way home. We had a great time and just got back home last night.
I've posted videos of my 3.60m and 3.70m makes in Kamloops, and my closest attempt at 3.80m. They can be selected here.

Re: John Altendorf Indoor World Record
The sign you see is the measurement of the last jump at the long jump pit which is behind me. It does look very funny being in the video.
I looked at the 3.80 video closely because at first I thought the bar might not have been placed on the pegs all the way against the standards upright. But then I could see that my hip or something did cause the bar to move away from the standard but still on the peg and it just fell off after a little more bouncing.
Oh well. If I stay healthy I'll just have to jump it cleanly next indoor season. In the meantime I need to train harder to be ready for outdoor season.

Re: John Altendorf Indoor World Record
Great work John! Looks like you can definitely jump higher!
Glad you had a good trip. I was thinking of you yesterday when I was in Corvallis visiting family...are you still coaching at CHS? Our HS districts are the same day as the Hayward classic this year, so I'm not sure if we can make it.
Hope to see you soon!
Tom

Re: John Altendorf Indoor World Record
John,
As I wrote earlier Congratulations. You set a high standard for the rest of us. I am really looking forward to Sacramento when our age group will have you, Matti, Joe Johnson and myself. I can see a sweep in the making. I wish you good health and many happy days of vaulting.

Re: John Altendorf Indoor World Record
Art,
My info says your 65th is coming up in 1 week, is that correct?
It will be fun with the four of us vaulting together. I do hope we all stay healthy so we can vault.

Re: John Altendorf Indoor World Record
I, as a reluctant pole vaulter who only does it when forced to do in decathlons and the like, was privileged to witness John make those awesome jumps at Kamloops.
All I can say is -how inspirational it was to see what a geezer (like me) can accomplish! T'was wondrous to behold!! Thanks, John, for inspiring me (truly a pole vault spastic) to endeavour to vault higher- and I will.
Hopefully see you in Sacramento,
Grant Lamothe
