Area Roundup: Ducks' Sanchez captures pole vault title
By Staff
May 27, 2006 - 12:04:32 am PDT
CHENEY ---- Toutle Lake's Efrain Sanchez, the pole vaulter without a pole vault pit at his own school, captured the Class B state championship here Friday at Eastern Washington University on his last attempt of the night.
Sanchez cleared 12 feet, 9 inches to edge Willapa Valley's Ernie Cardin by three inches. The Ducks' senior practiced pole vaulting once a week in Longview at Mark Morris High School because Toutle Lake does not have a vaulting pit at its track.
The 12-9 mark was a personal best for Sanchez.
