2 memorials for slain track coach next weekend
CALEB HEERINGA
THE BELLINGHAM HERALD
The life of slain local track coach Jeremy Scully, who was shot to death, will be honored with two events next weekend.
Bellingham Parks and Recreation will host a celebration of life for Scully near the pole vaulting pit in the northeast corner of Civic Field from 2 to 5 p.m. May 18.
The event is a potluck open to the public and will include an opportunity for beginners to learn the basics of pole vaulting — one of Scully’s passions. For more information, call Parks and Recreation at 778-7000.
Scully’s family is also hosting a memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Church in Poulsbo.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions be sent to Ferndale High School’s track team or Western Washington University. For information on how to donate, contact Ferndale High at 383-9240 or visit the university’s Web site at www.wwu.edu and click on “Giving Opportunities.â€
