Pole vaulting is becoming more expensive each year, and because of the national high school association's ruling on increasing the size of the pit pads (by almost 27 square feet), schools are scrambling to pay anywhere between $3,000 and $7,000 to meet regulations. It might affect participation, too. WIAA executive director Mike Colbrese will take a poll at the next athletic director conference to see which schools have dropped it.
