Stuczynski seeks fourth indoor win

Jenn Stuczynski has her sights set on a fourth successive pole vault title at the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships.
Stuczynski has grown annually in stature as a world-class performer since her first triumph, culminating in claiming the Olympic silver medal in Beijing last summer.

The 27-year-old's progress has seen her prove herself a worthy successor to fellow American Stacy Dragila, who was acknowledged as the pioneer of women's pole vaulting.

Stuczynski has made a great start to her season, winning all three Visa Championship Series meets - the 102nd Millrose Games, Reebok Boston Indoor Games and Tyson Invitational - in fine style.

She has taken attempts at American-record heights at all three events, and in Boston earlier this month deposed Dragila of the US indoor record with a clearance of 4.82 metres.

"I didn't know if I was going to do well," Stuczynski said after her superb performance at the Reggie Lewis Centre.

"I didn't have a feeling about it going into this meet. It was a big question mark. I think it was a relief.

"It's a mental game you play with yourself. I've tried this so many times."

Stuczynski, on her return to the New England venue, will now be looking for more success against a field which includes the resurgent Dragila, who at the age of 37 is competing in her final season.

Dragila has been second to Stuczynski at each Visa Championship Series meet in 2009, including a jump of 4.61m at the Millrose Games.
