Re: Prize Money At Jammin' & Jumpin Street Vault
You might consider changing your differential in heights for the overall elite winner. A 4 foot differential is not easy to overcome when a woman jumps 14'6" or higher, which many can do from less than full approach. (Yes, I can think of many occasions that this has happened). Many may think its easy for an elite male to jump 18'6"+ but, at a street vault it is not easy to come by, especially that time of year. I think the competition would be fair if the differential was 3'6". Or even go by the distance from the world record for each sex. This makes the competition much more intense and balances out each vaulters chance at winning.

Re: Prize Money At Jammin' & Jumpin Street Vault
6.14 * 90% = 5.53 so 18' 2"
5.05 * 90% = 4.54 so 14' 10"
a difference of 1.01 meter or 3'4"
Which is more impressive?
Lets take some other things into account that take place here in the US!
In the US this year there are 8 guys who jumped over 5.53.
In the US this year there are 4 women who jumped over 4.54
I restate the question which is more impressive?
10th highest height in the US for men is 5.51 so 18'1"
10th highest height in the US for women is 4.41 so 14'6"
A difference of 1.1 meters or 3'7"
US Nationals B Standard for Men is 5.50 so 18'0"
US Nationals B Standard for Women is 4.20 so 13'9"
A difference of 1.30 meters or 4'3"
US Nationals A and Olympic Standard for Men is 5.70 or 18'8"
US Nataionsl A and Olympic Standard for Women is 4.40 or 14'5"
A difference of 1.30 meters or 4'3"
American Record Maybe!
6.04 * 90% = 5.44
4.92 * 90% = 4.42
so a difference of 1.02 meters or 3'4"
The bottom line is whats fair? Is an 18' jump the same as a 14' jump for women? Is a 19' jump the same as a 15' jump?
Sky High I am not sure where you got your data but there is only 1 women in the US that can jump that from a short approach and Jenn I'm pretty sure won't be attending. A women jumping over 14'6" is way more impressive than a man jumping 18' sorry to tell you. I'm guessing you only coach male vaulters.
If you went % of the WR the women would have no shot either that happened at Gill a couple years ago and the women got destroyed by 5.35 jumps Here is a possible way to level the playing field by taking either the percentage of the top PR or season best height in the field for the men and for the women.
Top guy in the Field has a PR of 5.75 or jumped that high this year either way
Top women in the Field has a PR of 4.60 or jumped that high this year either way
If Guy Vaulter A jumps 5.60 that would be 97.4% of top mark
If Women Vault A jumps 4.45 that would be 96.7% of top mark
Guy Vaulter A wins the meet. Now if the top women in the field has a PR or season best of only 4.50 than Women Vaulter A jumps 4.45 and wins with a 98.8% of top mark performance.
This is a way to level the field. Personal a stipulation of a minimal top mark of 18' and 14' when an elite is present. Worst case scenario for this would be a 4.50 women in a field with top guy jumping 5.20. Guy jumping 5.20 shouldn't win if women goes 4.30 plus. Same with a 5.50 guy in a field with a 4 meter women.
5.05 * 90% = 4.54 so 14' 10"
a difference of 1.01 meter or 3'4"

We've always done a 4 foot different at the Tacoma and Alki Beach Vaults and it works out well. Sometimes the guys win, sometimes the girls.

At USATF the 6th place woman was 14'5 which with a 4' bump would have her beating the number one guy's jump of 18'4.

Different Day, Different Weather, Different Pit, Difference Circumstances.
Men's Competition was just weird, but at a US Championship the only thing that matters is the place you finish. You can't compare two competitions taken place under different circumstances. With that being said yes the women's competition in terms of heights cleared was better than the men's.
No one has still answered the question whats more impressive a women jumping 4.40 jump or a man jumping 5.60 jump?

Don't want to take away from the original Post.
This is a great meet for all ages. We attended the meet last year. Great Elite Competition as well as all levels. The Blue Grass Festival was pretty sweet too.
These guys put on a great meet. Come check it out.

IMO, I think 5.60 is more impressive. I think a 1m margin is about right...definitely not 4' like 4.40 - 5.60. For example, at least 1 HS girl a year for the past few years now has jumped 14'. With so few HS guys jumping 18', 14' shouldn't be worth 18'. 14' is probably equal to the low 17's where a 1m differential puts it. However, I think the higher you go the greater the margin...It generally takes 4.50+ to make a WC/OG final compared to 5.65-5.70 for the men. So the differential is now over 1m. At the top end, 5.00 is probably a bit closer to being equal to 6.05 - 6.10 instead of 6.00m.
