Home Depot Results?
Flash Results sucks. Home Depot home page is horrible. If anyone knows results it would be much appreciated.

I hate to see any pole break no matter the brand

This is the time of the year when you need to move up poles quickly. Staying on a size or not moving up a size can result in this.
I had heard the winds were so gusty and erratic if you were on a softer progression pole and the wind let up you could over load your pole blow through or have this happen.
Same thing happened to a few on our poles this weekend too.
And we heard of a few other brands too.
Congrats to all vaulters for a hard meet at the Home Depot Meet.
Personal congrats to Jeff 3rd. , Dana 1st and Tracy 2nd

On tv they kept talking about how strong the winds were and all the jumps and races were wind aided and the pole vault runway was going across the end zone so the wind would have been a cross wind. I missed the first 20 minutes but all I saw was Toby missing 19' and then they posted the mens top three on the screen. Normal tv coverage of the pole vault.
Winners find a way to win, losers find an excuse.

Anybody have any specifics on this? What brand pole? What size? How many jumps taken on it? New or old? Any damage? How many pieces? Where were the breaks located? etc...

Derek's Pole Break
I was at the meet. Derek broke the pole on his first jump at the opening height - 5.35 m. He was using a short run since he is nursing a sore hamstring. The pole broke in 3 pieces (I think) - an 8 foot long piece from the plug end to the label, a 2-3 foot long piece above that, and a 5-6 foot long top piece. I brought the small piece home with me - the rest was left at the track. The pole was an old Pacer Carbon - 13.5 flex. The piece I have has half of the label - and it looks like there were three labels on the pole - one on top of another on top of another. Anyway - the quick video analysis of the vaults I did at the USATF High Performance Center after the meet indicates that Derek's speed was the fastest on this vault.
The competition was definitely adversely affected by the gusty cross-wind and slight headwind from the right side of the runway (a great tailwind for the sprinters and long jumpers). The starting height was supposed to be 5.60 m - but the vaulters convinced the meet director to lower it to 5.35 m. Good thing - otherwise there would have been 7 NH's instead of 3. Fred Arnold (the official) enforced the 1 minute rule and most of the guys used up their minute waiting for the wind to calm. As a result there were many run throughs and bailouts as vaulters were forced to commit and start down the runway with only seconds left on the clock.
The men vaulted first. Most of the women's competition was also contested under poor wind conditions. But the wind was slowly shifting during their competition. By the time Dana was jumping by herself - she had a great tailwind. I thought she would make 4.50 m but I think she was beat. She took a total of 13 vaults.
Mary Sauer not only had the wind to contend with but the starter as well. The pit was at the same end of the track as the start of the 400 m races. There were at least a dozen youth and midget 4 x 100 m relays contested at the end of the meet. Mary had the misfortune of the starter's pistol being fired during her vaults at least twice during her attempts at 4.30 m. In one instance she had just taken off when the pistol was fired less than 30 feet away.
