NEW WOMENS RECORD

Unread postby bma11 » Mon Jul 05, 2004 1:02 pm

Svetlana Feofanova of Russia broke the world record in the women's pole vault at the Tsiklitiria super grand prix meet, becoming the first woman to clear 16 feet (4.88 m). She cleared it on her second attempt. Feofanova broke the mark of 15-11 3/4 feet (4.87 m) set by Yelena Isinbayeva just a week ago.

I wonder if Yelena is kicking herself now, :crying: "If I set bar one centimeter highyur, I instead of Svetlana would be the verst 16 ft voman in history."

Probably not - feet and inches don't mean squat to Europeans - she's probably a lot more focused on being the first over 5.00 meters.

Most Europeans are aware of the imperial barriers, but I agree that Isbinyeva cares a lot more about breaking the 5 meter barrier.

All records are metric. You can't set a world or even an american record measuring imperially. His first 20' was 6.08. He said then that he jumped 6 meters for the world and 20 feet for the americans.
"You have some interesting coaching theories that seem to have little potential."
