Kelly has once again put up an awesome resume in 2004 but there is
something troubling - it seems that her three 15 foot jumps
(including her nice PR of 4.67 15'03.75 ) have been in the comfy and
familiar confines of the Bell Athletics training facility. She did
put up a near 15' jump at Provo two weekends ago so perhaps I'm just
nitpicking. If she gets in the top three this will be her second
Olympic Team. I still remember her skying over 14'06.50 back at the
2000 Trials putting the heat on Mrs. Dragila. I thought that day she
was gonna sky over 15' but it just wasn't in the cards.

Andrea has snuck up on quite a few folks this spring. She avoided
nearly all of the big indoor and outdoor Golden Spike events. She did
make the trip up to Eugene to compete at the Prefontaine Classic but
she chose to jump at a lot of smaller meets (if you can call the
Kansas Relays and Drake Relays 'small'). She won every meet she
competed in until the Prefontaine and managed to crack the 15'
barrier for the first time on the 1st of May/ She also had marks of
14'08, 14'10.25 and 14'07.25. In other word you'd better watch out
for this Arizona grad. She could shock here...

Jillian really came into her own this winter when she took 4th at the
World Indoor Championships and snagging her first 15-footer to boot.
Since then she's handed Stacy Dragila her only loss of the spring
season and also has been over 15' twice more. She slumped a bit
during a European sojourn in June but came back blazing at
Prefontaine topping 15'01. Not bad for the former Dukester...

I gotta admit I had sorta written of Tracy O'Hara as an Olympic
threat due to her inconsistency and I hate to say this - mediocre
perforamnces. Well that all changed this spring. Tracy started
showing signs of her form of 2000 at the Drake Relays when she topped
4.43 14'06.25 and again at Modesto where she got 2nd against a very
tough field with a seasonal best of 4.45 14'07.25. After a few okay
performances she then lit it up at TrackCityUSA's summer series
getting her first 15-foot jump of her career (finally - *whew*) on
June 12th and then following that up 4 days later with a 4.52
14'10.00 jump. The Prefontaine meet wasn't as kind and she finished a
disappointing 6th but at least she has shown that she has the big
jumps in her. Did he peak too early?

This is what I said back in February for the Indoor Champs :
"Looks like Mary's taking this Olympic indoor season a tad easy.
Indoors has never been her bread and butter. She'll bring it
outdoors when the stakes are really high..."
Well I think I was pretty accurate there - save for a two-meet down
swing in May every single one of her marks this spring tops her best
jump indoors and in most cases by at least 4 inches. She's been
steady in the mid-14's and did hti the rarified air of 15' in Irvine
back in early May. She's made two World Outdoor teams but finished a
heartbreaking 4th at the 2000 Olympic Trials.

Jan Johnson's pride and joy has certainly made her mark on the scene
this year starting indoors when she recorded numerous 14'+
performances and grabbing a 2nd at the NCAA Indoor championships.
This spring she upped the ante clearing 15' and hacing a series of 5
meets where her lowest mark was 4.35 14'03.25. Since then though
there's been a bit of a letdown. Perhaps she's tired or was nursing
some small injuries. She did win the NCAA Outdoor Championship crown
back on June 11th and hasn't competed since then so she should be all
rested up and ready to go come Friday. She could follow her father
onto an Olympic squad.

Becky closed out a stellar collegiate career in 2003 winning the NCAA
DI outdoor crown and making her first World Championship team. Since
then she's been training hard. She skipped the indoor circuit this
year and stayed local outdoors staying mostly in the northwest. She's
put up a couple of mid-14' marks but that may just not cut it this
year. It's a tough field...
