Decathlon pole vault starting with strong aiding wind
OK, an event without a crosswind at last. The men will jump at two pits -- with strong aiding wind. The men's and women's junior 200 heats have concluded. They ran with the wind on the turn. Flags at the south end of the stadium are blowing straight out -- in same direction as the vaulters. At 3:15 p.m., the weather service says Carson's wind, blowing out of the west, is 21 mph. That's over the allowable for comfortable spectating. But it's a very comfortable 72 degrees (not counting any wind chill factor). At 15-8, about seven are still competing. Only Paul Terek remains as bar goes to 5.20 -- 17-0 3/4. he gets it easily on first try. Terek misses three times at 5.40 -- 17-8 1/2.
