VTechVaulter wrote:you last jumped seriously in 2000

The last I ran from my full run was in 2000.

your were a "great" collegiate D1 jumper (can u specificy all american?)

Shawn used the term "great", not me.... yes, I have achieved All American status before, in the 90's.

you jumped in no indoor meets this year

correct, I spent that time training and getting in shape

1 outdoor with a zero, opening at 5.50

a zero? I cleared my opener, then passed to 5.50m

you have kids

I have two wonderful children

your not arkel, mr. polevault, brian hunter, or jacob davis

sadly no, although I wish I was Mr. Polevault. That would be a great title to have...

am i missing anything pertinent

nope

my guess is Professor Plum, in the kitchen, with the rope

sorry, I don't play Monopoly much...

p.s. can you tell us if you have ever been at an ncaa meet that you didn't warm up for, but still jumped in. haha.

I've warmed up at every NCAA meet I've been to, sorry....

OK. I said "great". He was definitely a top-tier vaulter back in the day though. I do think most people who saw him jump then would agree that he had more untapped potential than most of his peers. Back then if he was a 5.50 vaulter and knowing his raw talent you would not be shocked to see him throw up a 5.80 on accident. He definitely did not jump his potential in college.

What about doug sharp. He's probably still in good shape from bob sleding. A 1993 graduate of Purdue University and a doctor of chiropractic, Sharp is a former Big Ten Champion and NCAA qualifier in the pole vault. Holding a personal-best height of 18-5, Sharp was ranked 35th in the World in 1996 and came just short of qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Trials when a broken foot curtailed his training in that same year. I know he has been coaching the vault for a few years. He talked me into going to palmer college of chiropractic back in 96 at a track meet at north central. My wife knows his sister pretty well. I 'll have her check it out when she gets back from vacation in a week.

I was trying to do a little more digging came accross this 02 article where he said he will sled for another year or so, and then wants to try to make a bid for the olympics in the pole vault.

i did not mean to say in any way that he was not great. i just was looking for some clarification on what great meant. i wasn't trying to take it in any negative connotation

Oh no, didn't take it that way. I could see how someone could misconstrue "great" as meaning one of the top 10 collegiate performers of all time. I was just clarifying what I meant.
