Older film of Daniel Ryland
Daniel posted this on his youtube page a few days back from a practice in 2005. i dont think ive ever seen anyone run that fast from 7 lefts. Stats are broken down on the video but heres the run down
5.00m grip on one of Jeff Hartwigs 5.20 12.9 (keep in mind Daniel at this point was weighing in around 170lbs compared to Stews 190ish)
104' run, 7 lefts
54'6 on the mid
and the crossbar is at 19'2 (bar not bungee)
enjoy

Re: Older film of Daniel Ryland
That is probably because you haven't seen anyone run that fast from any amount of lefts!!! Daniel is fast as hell (as you probably already know!) I remember watching him blaze 10.48 at 19 years old at the USATF juniors in 1998 in the dec (world junior record 100m dec at the time.) I seem to remember that he went through EB's 15m speed trap at 1.38 at one time or another!! Do the math....the 1.38 is 10.9 m/p/s raw velocity. Fast as hell!!!!! FYI: I think our former American Record Holder Jeff Hartwig came through at 1.46 or 1.44 in his prime, and his peak runway velocity was 9.7m/p/s during his heyday. So, think about how fast Daniel is on the runway!!!
Retain faith that you will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties.

I believe Russ Buller has run quite fast

That is what I have heard too....I just have not seen any real data on Russ. I do know he was 10.30something over 100m though.

Daniels PR through the time machine at bells is 1.35 = 11.1 m/s
Re: Older film of Daniel Ryland
2005 seems so long ago. Steven Hooker did not qualify for Helsinki WC final in this year. Such a difference n four years?
Re: Older film of Daniel Ryland
For some reason I remember 10.29 for 100m for Russ. No guarantee on that though.
Hysong had a 10.27 100m in 2000?. No idea if it was FAT, A, 2.0+, etc.

Re: Older film of Daniel Ryland
Hysong's 100m was totally hand timed. He laughs about it to this day.
Russ ran 10.33 or 10.34 legal, but he never learned to transfer that speed to the runway. His takeoff velocities were just "normal" for 5.80m guys.

Re: Older film of Daniel Ryland
Would your point be that, such speed is perhaps no revelant? Helpful, perhaps but naturally does not always equate success? However, was the last U.S. athlete to successfully win back to back Olympic/World Champs medals. I believe he won a medal in Edmonton? Would be interested to know Stevenson numbers when he was at his best? I watch him clear 5.90 in a big way in 2005 Monterrey, Mexico

No, Hysong's runway speed was quite good, but he did not ever run 10.2x 100m legally.

Re: Older film of Daniel Ryland
According to DJ, Ryland ran 10.38 ... that's FAST!
This vid reminded me of another one ... where his vault was compared side-by-side with Tim Mack.

DJ, Master, and I tossed this around in private email last April ... the vid was taken around 3/29/2006. I don't think it ever got posted ... or if it did, I forget where. DJ's intent was for either Master or me to post it ... so here it is. Better late than never.
I think that LadyVols created this in DartFish, and I'm not sure but I think Ryland is right-handed but he inversed his vid to show him as if he's left-handed (so that he's running in the same direction as Mack for ease of comparison).
DJ also had an interesting comment re Ryland's speed, which I don't think he would mind if I quote here:

the only reason Tim doesn't jump like Bubka is speed.. he actually maximizes his physical characteristics better than Bubka.. and the only reason Daniel (10.38 100 meters) doesn't jump like Bubka is the poles he uses ...
