Houma's Laurent takes third in pole vault at U23 Championships

INDIANAPOLIS — Houma native Rachel Laurent, a Vandebilt Catholic High School product, finished third in the women’s pole vault at the 2010 NACAC Under 23 Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Fla.


Laurent, entering her junior season at LSU and one of the most decorated female high school pole vaulter in the history of the state, cleared 3.90m/12feet,9.5 inches to take third place in the event.

The NACAC Under 23 Track & Field Championships are held every two years in one of the 32 member nations of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association, one of six regional athletics associations affiliated with the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).

The competition features the country’s top track and field athletes who are under the age of 23 during 2010.
