USATF Indoors - Take your guesses at the start list!
We have the honor of having the event with the most entries that don't meet the qualifying standard (men's pole vault). Why? John Chaplin loves to let in people who don't have the standard... if he likes you or your coach that is...

There are six college guys qaulified. To bad they cannot go, we would have a full field. Most conference meets are that weekend, before anyone asks why that do not go. Rory is in the field.

Don't know if my email made a difference or not, but they finally got the auto-qualifiers updated. Also, Jordan Scott and Vera Neuenswander qualified this weekend. Paul Litchfield qualified too, with 5.52 at Simplot, but he told me he doesn't plan to go.

Re: USATF Indoors - Take your guesses at the start list!
I can pretty much guarantee they won't take any unqualified women (different people making decisions than the men). On the men's side there are now 9 guys qualified. Indoors they like to have small fields of about 8 or so. I wouldn't think they would take anyone else, but it's John Chaplin making the call, so ANYthing could happen. But if I were one of the unqualified guys, I wouldn't hold my breath...

Re: USATF Indoors - Take your guesses at the start list!
On the men's side, there was the usual hodge podge of random non-qualified people being let in the meet.
I don't have an opinion about how big the field size should be. I have an opinion about the rules not being followed. They should just make all the T&F Champs be like the Olympic Trials... here's the auto qualifier, here's the field size. Or just use the one qualifier and actually stick to it.
I guess I shouldn't waste any energy on this. It's the same BS that John Chaplin has been doing since long before I was born. Supposedly he's not running for men's open chair again, so maybe things will get better. Or maybe one of his cronies will take over and things will remain the same.
I hate it when rules and standards are not followed, and it comes down to the judgment of a possibly senile old man

Re: USATF Indoors - Take your guesses at the start list!
We had 4 men with the Indoor World Standard to go to Worlds....
1 backed out
1 has not jumped indoors and hasn't declared yet
1 has not made the qualifier but declared
1 has made the qualifier and declared
So as of today as long as the two who have the 5.72 make a bar and no one else makes 5.72 at the Championship they will go to Indoor worlds.
I'm just glad when they let one 5.41 in they let everyone in above him. Should be a fun meet to watch I really hope a few others can challenge for the 5.72 bar. Tough place to jump very fast boards and poles roll in very easily. Who will bring big enough poles.

Scott Roth injured his hammy earlier this year. If he and Grande were to NH or jump really low at USATF Indoors, and no one else jumped 5.72, it would be interesting to see what USATF does. I would be inclined to not take anyone who can't show fitness.
Does anyone know why Derek scratched out? He seemed like practically a shoo in to make the team.

Derek told me he was only interested in outdoors and the Olympic's, and also said he was done after that. Why he was entered I am not sure.

Glad to hear he's not injured!
