Milestones in Pole Vaulting 2004!
I have already asked this question, but there were some that I wanted to add. So, what do you think was the 2004 Milestone in Pole Vaulting?

I totally think the sweep at the Olympics was the best thing of the year for pole vaulting from an american's point of view, but no one can ignore the fact that the women are doing extremely well also. Mad props to those russian girls who are jumping some monster heights. Also, if it weren't for Toby going 6m at Modesto, I don't know what would have happened this year in American pole vaulting. He led the way. All in all, what an amazing year for the sport. Thats all I have to say.

Vault with a purpose... Vault for God!!
I think that a few of them could qualify to be the greatest. They all have their categories. Women, men, college, etc. I think the best for women is clearing 16 ft. for men, i think it would be mack getting over 6.01 and for college it would be chelsea johnson getting over 15. Dang, they are on fire!
Just you wait...

Those are all good choices on the pole. It was hard to pick a single one. Tim and Toby have definetally "raised the bar" for the mens Vault in the US. We were not looking to strong in depth since 2000. Jeff was dominating, but no one else was rising up to the challenge. Now we have a multitude of 5.80m+ vaulters in one year

Did I miss anyone????
The world questioned US mens Vault, and these guys answered. 2004 was one for the books. Nice job everyone. Can't wait to see what 2005 will look like!!!
As for the women. They have been sharing the top with Russia for quite some time now, and not much improvement has been seen in the last few years in the US. When your on top, the only place too go is down, at some point. 15' has been the mark to hit for so long, when in reality it should be 16' by now. I think 2004 will be an eye opener for our women, and they will rise again. They just need someone other than Stacy to help lead the charge. Stacy will be back, there is no question of that, she loves the sport too much. But she can't win them all, and who is going fill in for her when she is unable to rise to the challenge? And the real question is, who is going to replace her when she decides to hang it up????? These are the questions that need answering for womens vault in the US.

I think so, but I can't be sure. Him and Tim were the only two to jump 6m this year. But I'm not sure about 2003. I don't think anyone jumped 6m that year.

I'm about 99.9% sure that toby was the first man to jump 6 meters on short pegs. Because short pegs didn't take in effect until 2003, I believe. Since then, there have been only two guys that have jumped six meters or higher (Toby and Tim).

And they are the only two to jump 6m since the whole drug incident so they are legit as you can get.

The THG thing? No pole vaulters have ever been accused of being part of that as far as I know.

I dont mean to sound dumb... but what do you guys mean by short pegs? what was the difference from all the other 6m jumps to Toby and Tim's?
In 2003 the length of the pegs that hold the crossbars up, were trimmed down by a few centimeters, and the ends of the crossbars were only allowed to have one flat side instead of the traditional square end. Making it more difficult to get love from the bar when you brush it on your way over.
