Bob Ramsak's Track Profile Reports <bob@trackprofile.com> yesterday showed the total prize money and bonuses awarded to track and field athletes in 2004 as US$21M.
The biggest winners, through splitting the $1,000,000 Golden League
jackpot by winning each of the six Golden League competitions in their
specialties, were triple jumper Christian Olsson of Sweden ($644,660)
and 400-meter runner Tonique Williams-Darling of Bahamas ($571,950).
No vaulters were included in the top-20 men's list. On the women's
list, Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva, with eight 2004 world records (three
indoors, five outdoors) is shown with a year's total of $374,250;
second only to Williams-Darling. Stacy Dragila finished eleventh among
the women with $98,820.
Ramsak notes that the $21M total does not include road-racing and
cross-country winnings, and that the individual totals do not include
"appearance fees" or unreported bonuses.
