INDIANAPOLIS- Brad Walker has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after a world leading clearance of 6.00 meters/19 feet 8.25 inches in the men's pole vault Wednesday in Jockgrim, Germany.

The 2005 World Indoor champion, Walker became the 12th man in history to clear six meters in easily defeating the field in Germany. Australia's Paul Burgess finished second with a height of 5.82m/19-1. Walker's previous career best was 5.96m/19-6.5 from last year's meet in Rieti, Italy.

Another notable performance from last week occurred Friday at the 22nd Vardinoyiannia meet at Rethymno, Greece, where 2006 USA Outdoor champion Jenn Stuczynski won the women's pole vault with an outdoor personal best and U.S. leading clearance of 4.65 meters/15 feet 3 inches.

Also last week, two-time USA 5,000 meter champion Adam Goucher ran a U.S. leading time of 13 minutes 10 seconds in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium on Saturday.

Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
