Maine State Qualifiers for New Englands: Complicated

Unread postby Russ » Thu Jun 08, 2006 12:11 am

I'm here in Connecticut so I'm not 100% certain of this, but here's what I've been able to figure out from the news on the web.

Last weekend at the Maine State Class Meets (A,B, & C), torrential wind & rain caused the A & C meets to be postponed. The Principals Committee rescheduled those meets for Sat. June 10 - the same day as the New England Championships in New Britain, CT. So, only the Class B vaulters were able to qualify for the New England Meet! Unfortunately, I think that that knocks out Bethany Dumas, who's jumped 11-6.

If anybody has any more complete info, please post. According to one web site, the performance list for the Class A meet will be available Thursday afternoon.

Here are the Maine Qualifiers (listed at www.sub5.com/pvctrack/home.htm):

Boys

1. Will Yankowski, Waterville 13-6
2. Brandon Boston, York 12-6
3. Blake Jordan, Waterville 12-6
4. Matt Ward, Winslow 12-6
5. Chad Westliegh, Poland 12-0

Girls

1. Sidney Blum, York 9-6
2. Felicia Hart, Fryeburg 9-0
3. Casey Corrow, Waterville 8-6
4. Nori Francis-Mezger, Hampden 8-6
5. Jessie Lefebvre, Waterville 8-0
6. Heather Vickery, Old Town 8-0

yup that pretty much how its going. the top finishers from states will go onto new englands, while class A and C will simply have their state meets. personally, i feel for those athletes who can jump higher then perhaps the class B heights and yet won't be able to compete. doesn't affect me directly because i didn't qualify for states in vault, so i survived torential rain just for relays :P but i'm friends with Sibley Blum and she's disappointed she won't have more competition from Maine.

I was at the class A meet for vault the first time during the monsoon, but since it was postponed to the next week I didnt get to jump because I had to take the ACT :crying:
