Most high school seniors spent last weekend hanging out at the Branford Festival in anticipation of Tuesday's graduation. Not Bryan Curley.

While Curley's classmates felt the relief of having completed their high school obligations, he had one more thing to do. The Hornets' star pole vaulter took a trip down to Greensboro, North Carolina to represent both his town and his state in the Nike Outdoor National Championships.

Curley cleared a solid 14-7.5 at the meet, which landed him a spot among the top twenty competitors. The mark was not far from the career-best vault of 15-1 that qualified him for the Championships.

The senior found his time in Greensboro to be very enjoyable.

"It was a great experience. There were a lot of really good athletes there, and it was exciting to be a part of this meet. My vaulting was decent and the atmosphere was really good-it was around ninety degrees and sunny out, so it was a nice day. It was all definitely worth the trip," said Curley.

The meet marked Curley's final competition as a Branford Hornet. In his one year stay in town, he became the second best pole vaulter in New England as well as the runner-up in both the indoor and outdoor CIAC State Open Championships. Curley also holds the indoor and outdoor pole vault records for the Branford track and field program at 14-8 and 15-1, respectively.

Next year, he will vault at the University of Connecticut.
