Hello! I was a High School vaulter in Iowa many years ago. Our school enjoyed a long tradition of pole vault excellence which dated back to the World War II era with athletes utilizing bamboo and aluminum poles. The bond between vaulters at our school was exceptional. After I graduated pole vaulting (In Iowa) followed the path of the dinosaur at the middle and high school level. The event was discontinued. Needless to say I have never fully recovered from this revolting development!
Fast forward to 2006! I have been offered a teaching position in Tennessee and am excited about my daughters eventually having the opportunity to explore their skills in this sport as well as possibly serving as a pole vault coach at some level.
Do you folks feel the event is in good shape in Tennessee and will be a lasting fixture in Prep Track & Field?
Best Regards and looking forward to meeting you folks!

Tennessee enjoys tremendous success in the pole vault over the years. Check into Houston High School in the Memphis area. Lately they have produced some of the consistantly best vaulters in the state. Of course in Knoxville you are likely to run into the likes of Tom Pappas, Tim Mack, Lawrence Johnson on any given day at the UT track...

Lo is still "threatening" to come back. He's had some injury problems with his shoulder this past year. He's been coaching the local Catholic High School track team. Every time I see him at the pole vault pit he gets the ITCH to do it again. But I believe he's begun to train again and will really give it a go!! I'd love to see him back on the stage!!
Thanks for the feedback on Tennessee Pole Vault!
Thank you for the information! My family and I are eager to get acquainted and actively involved with Pole Vault activities within the region.
Best Regards
