Reaching new heights

Michael Utterback rarely pushed son, Stephen, to compete in any specific sport.
But after Stephen decided not to participate in track his freshman year, Michael was convinced he was going to make his son run his sophomore year.

Southmont coach Marvin Walters was pleased with how his team performed, despite resting his distance runners for a Tuesday meet at Westfield, at the Mounties Indoor Time Trials Invitational at Wabash College’s Allen Center Thursday.
Stephen Utterback picked up where he left off last season in pole vault, an event he advanced to the state finals in. Utterback won the pole vault with a height of 13 feet. Teammate Corbin Michaels came in fourth with a height of 11 feet.
“He’s (Utterback) getting really consistent there in the vault,â€Â
