Records were set and the bar was raised and eyes were opened.
A total of nine Class AA records fell at the Al Sahli Invitational Track and Field Meet hosted by Aberdeen Central on Saturday at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen and the pole vault bar was cleared at a near state record height for the girls.
The meet fireworks happened in the girls' pole vault when Watertown's Leslie Brost cleared 12-feet-6 to set a meet record. The state outdoor record of 12-7 was set by Mallory Peck of Sioux Falls O'Gorman at the State AA meet last year. Brost, who is now a sophomore, finished second to the O'Gorman senior at 11-6 at state.
"I've been working on my technique all season," said Brost. "I still have a ways to go. I hope to get over the 12-6 mark again."
