OK I just talked to Rick Baggett... Tommy did not break 2 poles, he just blew through them. He did not bring a big enough pole to clear 16 feet.

Tommy blew over 17'7" today at the Oregon State Meet here at Hayward Field. Hip clearance of 18'4". He then took big shots at the NR of 18'2.5". I thought he was gonna get it. Oh, and by the way, he was on a seven step and 16 foot poles! Not bad for his first real meet back from the injury huh?

Just wait until he can work some of the speed hes gained into a 8 or 9 step and gets on 5m poles. Watch out!

unfortunately i don't. i went to the meet straight from class and was lucky to see him jump. However, there was an entire army of reporters and photographers there surrounding the pit. I'm sure there will be plenty of good pics up on dyestat and other sites.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually play baseball anymore. I guess this happens sometimes in the low rounds (like 37). Teams pick really good athletes who used to play baseball.
