How would you decide on the proper size if you have no bar straps to try on and see if they're the right size?
Also, if I'm watching the video correctly, there are no loops there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfF1u6CTX5U Can you explain further?
Hi the following video should help you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKTfeRnLfsY
Size of loop required depends on:
1. Diameter of the bar to be used if only the bar is used. If PVC tube is a single / two piece/s covering the bar and the loops are to be placed entirely on the tubes without contact with the bar this additional diameter thickness must be taken into account.
2. Thickness of gloves and any additional wrist bands used to protect wrist.
3. Wrist circumference when gloves and protective wrist band are being worn.
4. When a loop has been placed on the bar / PVC tube and the wrist placed carefully through it and the hand turned to grasp the bar / tube the hand with closed grip must be firmly held in contact with the surface by the loop. The tension in the loop should be such that if the fingers release their grip the palm of the hand will continue to maintain bar / tube contact.
Method to take measurement:
a. Place glove and any additional wrist protection on hand and wrist.
b. Place a cloth (tailor's) measuring tape into a circular loop and drape it across the bar or tube with the diameter you will be using.
c. Facing the bar/tube insert gloved hand and wrist throught draped loop until the bands of the loop contact the wrist.
d. Angle the hand inwards toward the middle of the bar/tube and make a twisting motion against the loops to grasp the bar firmly in overgrasp. Adjust the cloth measuring tape until the tension is such that when you open your fingers to release your grasp the palm of your hand still contacts the bar/tube.
e. Hold the measuring tape firmly and then reverse the hand action and withdraw your hand and wrist from the draped loop.
f. Holding the tape firmly lift from the bar/tube and read off the distance on the tape. This is the size of the loop you will need for you and your specific circumstances.
However, ideally it is much better to try various loops until you find the size that works best for you in the real situation you will practice in. The method outlined above will get you as close as you can without being able to try the loops before purchase.
Good luck
