Train in the grass or in sand (playground, beach etc.) Soft sand is outstanding and you will feel the burn!

Re: Distance running and the pole vault
it's a possibility but i'd have to run almost 2 miles to get there, and then have 2 miles uphill home - also i hate getting sand in my shoes cause they're worn out enough already

LOL, sand is nasty stuff.....gets everywhere. I usally go barefoot when in sand. Plyo bands work OK in a pinch as well although they can be a pain.

Re: Distance running and the pole vault
Plyomeytric bands are big rubber bands to add resistence to normal movement. they are commonly used by physical therapists for re-hab purposes but work great for resistence training of the plyometric typel An example would be the throwing movement of a baseball pitcher. Grip a plyo band and have it anchored at shoulder height and simulate a throwing movement. The increased resistence of the band increases the arms ability to execute the movement with greater force/speed etc. You can do many repetitions to aid in injury recovery to build strenght/power without in this example actually throwing a ball. You can use them similarly anchored to a waist belt and to a ground anchor to jump against their resitence. They are tough to secure to the ground safely somtimes so that is why I said they are a pain

Well you can make plyo bands out of old bicycle inner tubes. The thinner you cut them the less resistence they have. Although you can buy them at wal-mart pretty inexspensively.

Well another option is latex/surgical tubing. the tubing can be purchased at pharmacy supply/drug stores here in the USA and possibly where you are as well. they cost a little more but come in a variety of sizes and work great.
