I always tape my hands like that during preseason. Luckily, by the time season comes, my hands are usually strong enough and I don't always have to tape them. I know this sounds wierd but if you have callouses that are too big, try using a razor to make them smaller. When I was in gymnastics, my coach used to shave off our callouses every week. I forgot about it until about a week ago and when I tried it again it really seemed to help. Just make sure you dont press too hard! go VERY lightly over your callous with your hand spread out so that the skin is tight. And dont shave all of your callous off, just enough so that it wont rip off when you are doing bar work! Another trick is to use gymnastics grips when on the high bar, but those can be expensive.

ya, my trainer wont let me touch the stuff wihtout like, a signed note from my coach, lol. but of course im a "teacher assisitant" or whatever in weight lifting class, so i happen to have access to keys to the training room.. haha, and sometimes the genious trainers will jus leave the door open and leave .. O:-) not like iv got a few boxes of the stuff in my locker or anything ..
What have you done today to get better?

Athletic tape is really expensive, that is why some trainers are anal about it.

I didn't steal any from my high school, but I sure took a lot from the public school I practiced gymnastics at. We were upstairs, so we kept our own bag with tape supplies up there so that we did not have to go all the way downstairs to get minor things taped.

My coach sent me down there about once a week to grap a few rolls... I would grab maybe 4 for the gymnastics team and 1 for me :P

Filing your calluses with a nail file will do the same thing as using a razor, except it takes a little more time, and there is no chance of shaving too much of the skin off.
