The Ex-teacher of Olympic champion and world recordholder Yelena Isinbayeva, Yevgeniy Trofimov, assigned recently to the post of senior trainer to the women's polevaulting team of Russia, in the interview for the agency "Entire sport", described his functions for team Russia and operating principles.

"Among my functions is the survey of all athletes, beginning with the juniors, to compose a data bank and to look at their prospects. The place of gatherings is unambiguously determined. With the conclusion of a contract with the All-Russian Federation for Light Athletics (VFLA) that was one of my conditions, so that all trainings of the team would be passed to Volgograd. But a few weeks prior to responsible starts (for example, the World Championships) it can be transferred into Moscow".

According to Yevgeny Trofimov, athletes will arrive with their personal trainers to the base at the Volgograd Academy of Physical Culture. Here for polevaulters are very good conditions for the preparation, even more preferable than in Moscow. Volgograd has a splendid training school, facility for jumping with good teaching trainers. The summer in the city is stable, not rainy, and the stadium at the Academy has a good sector.

How healthy is Feofanova? Ruptured discs are no fun.

More on Trof & Feo

Nothing particularly new here (especially since it's three days old now), but there's a quote from Trofimov ...

Komsomolskaya Pravda - Volgograd wrote:Trofimov will make from Feofanova a second Isinbayeva

Let us recall that immediately after the break with his distinguished student, Yevgeny Trofimov accepted the proposal of the All-Russian Federation of Light Athletics to head the female team for polevaulting. Moreover precisely in Volgograd is created the best [conditions] in the country for training base of jumpers. So that the main team of Russia already began to be prepared for the selection to the March world championship in the facilities of the physical culture academy.

True, thus far Yevgeny Vasilyevich pulls only the second team. They enter into it in essence young sportswomen. This gathering will end on 26 December, and during January the second will begin. In the lists there, starrier names are registered. Under Trofimov's beginning proved to be the age long rival of Isinbayeva, Svetlana Feofanova.

The Moscow polevaulter two years ago still fought with the Volgogradka for superiority in Russia, but Yelena's results made competition practically impossible. But now for Feofanova appears the chance to test on herself the patented procedures of Trofimov and to try "to push" the queen of the post from her throne.

"I always respected Sveta as champion and as person," says Yevgeny Vasilyevich. "Yelena and I simply more successfully planned preparation for the Olympic games in Athens. And not only. It certainly won't be easy for Svetlana - to overcome the missed [year]. But she is very talented and will be able to show splendid result."

It sounds like he thinks she's reasonably healthy now.

Feo vs. Isi in Birmingham

On 8 Jan 2006, Спорт Экспресс (Sport Express) wrote:The first duel in the new year of Isinbayeva and Feofanova takes place on 18 February in Birmingham

After more than a year interruption, the first competitive duel between the famous Russian pole vaulters, Yelena Isinbayeva and Svetlana Feofanova will take place on 18 February in Birmingham England, where will take place the traditional Norwich Union Grand Prix. Participation in this tournament from Yelena Isinbayeva's side was confirmed to the agency for sport information "Vyes sport" by Andreas Mettsler, the head of the Podium company. The participation of Svetlana Feofanova became known from the words of the sportswoman herself.

"At the given moment it is accurately known about my participation in two tournaments in this winter season," said Feofanova. "At the end of January I will come out for the traditional tournament of high jumpers and polevaulters in Bydgoszcz Poland, 'Cup Elite Kafe', and on 18 February - in Birmingham. Certainly it will be interesting for me to be there at once with Lena Isinbayeva, but it is complicated to fully explain this rivalry. I just am barely restored after the injury of my back, with which I suffered all of last year; therefore I thus far do not present large tasks."

And two more ...

Two more short articles showed up on the Спорт Экспресс website today:
On 9 Jan 2006, Спорт Экспресс (Sport Express) wrote:Feofanova did not arrive to the training camp of Trofimov

Svetlana Feofanova, the ex-world record holder is not registered to participate in the training camp beginning on 6 January of Yevgeny Trofimov - the senior trainer of team Russia for the female polevault, the former trainer of Yelena Isinbayeva. The sportswoman herself stated this to the agency of sport information "Vyes sport".

"Now I am trained in Moscow, as before, with my trainer Yevgeny Bondarenko," said Svetlana Feofanova. "We did not have plans to go for the training camp, which in these days are taking place in Volgograd. Now I am only just restored after injury, so I am occupied according to my individual program."

Answering a question about her health, Svetlana Feofanova noted: "All last year I suffered with pains in my spine. Yes, even now small pains still remain. My trainings take place thus far without the loads that they previously involved. The forthcoming season will be the first after this prolonged interruption; therefore the primary goal - complete recovery. This of course does not mean that I won't attempt to be selected for the team of Russia to the winter world championships in Moscow."
I guess Kulichenko was talking through his hat back in December.

On 9 Jan 2006, Спорт Экспресс (Sport Express) wrote:Yevgeny Trofimov: "A new Isinbayeva grows up in Russia"

Valeriya Volik, a 15 year-old junior from Krasnodar, a participant in the Volgograd training camp of the national polevault team of Russia currently being held by the senior trainer of the team, Yevgeny Trofimov, has begun work according to the program of the Olympic champion and 18-time world record breaker, Yelena Isinbayeva. Yevgeny Trofimov, who was the long-standing trainer of Isinbayeva, described this to the agency of sport information "Vyes sport".

In 2005 Valeriya Volik established the new junior record of Russia - 4 meters 40 centimeters, exceeding by 20 cm Yelena Isinbayeva's result.

"Valeriya Volik's personal trainer, Yuri Victorov, works with me in close contact," noted Yevgeny Trofimov. "When they arrived at the training camp, I proposed to them to work according to my program, and Yuri Yakovlevich agreed with pleasure. Valeriya Volik, a girl of the 1989 generation, now begins to master those exercizes on which Yelena Isinbayeva grew. They train for polevaulting in all details, they make it possible to overcome some blemishes in technique and to perform high vaults. This program is suitable for young sportswomen, whose technique has not yet become fixed, and for whom it is possible to change something. The work succeeds for us, therefore I place good hopes on Volik. She can jump very high."
I assume that's 20 cm above Isi's result as a 15 year-old, since I'm pretty sure her Junior WR was 4.47, set when she was 18, and which was just broken last fall by Silke Spiegelburg. Nevertheless, 4.40 at 15 is pretty impressive.
