Ecker in seventh heaven

A very strong field gathered for the men’s Pole Vault. No less than 8 athletes cleared a height of 5.61m and more. But nobody would have placed a bet on the winning chances of Danny Ecker. After almost 5 years of health problems and setbacks, the German was delighted when he passed 5.81m and 5.86m to win the competition.

“My previous 5.80m clearing dates back from 2001. Before that I guess I jumped 5.80m about 40 times,â€Â

One to watch may be Malte Mohr, just 20, and has upped his PR from 5.30 to 5.71 this year.
