this was also the strange 4 miss meet - so he only had one shot at 610 -- if you look at the results it put an early end to about 3 or 4 other vaulters as well

This is too wierd. They limit the number of misses for what? ... to reduce the duration of the event?

Why not limit the field to something less than 12 vaulters instead? ... Or make the opening height a bit higher, so more vaulters NH after just 3 jumps?

This would leave the top vaulters going at record-breaking heights ... which is what the fans like to watch.

I'd far rather watch 3 attempts at 6.10 than the 5 attempts (2 misses and 3 makes) made at 5.00!

Strongly agrees, Kirk.
Lavillenie jumped very well, and I think he had a decent chance at 6,10, was it not for the 4 misses rule.

During a camp a few years ago in Avignon, France, did they have an 8 attempt rule. In high jump and pole vault, did they have a maximum of 8 attempts, unless the 8th attempt was successfull. If so, you were granted a 9'th attempt.
Even more hilarious then the 4 misses rule, and certainly guarantees, that the results would/will suffer.

I guess when I wrote this on PVP after the New Balance indoor meet we went to, I was even selling this guy short.........

"I think he has one of the fastest and most confident runs I've seen in a long, long time. Of course I haven't seen Hooker. For his smaller frame and relatively flat take-off angle, he is freaking bringing the heat and his pole ratio looks quite large......and from 10 lefts might I add. I would like to know his runway velocity. It reminds me of Scott Huffman, probably in the 9.8 to 9.9 m/s range. No doubt about it. He looks pretty stong and stayed really tight when those poles came uncorked. Really strong looking core. I wouldn't be suprised to see him go 5.90m soon. Nice vaulting."

Nice wheels, and the nicest tuck-shoot I've ever seen!

Watch his vault from the back. He has an unusual style of separating his legs as he swings and then goes into his tuck. Can anyone explain the biomechanical advantage to this technique?

I thought it might be like Kozakiewicz's technique (http://www.polevaultpower.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=17218&p=123578&hilit=frog#p123578), but it's quite different ... and apparently quite effective!

Does everyone agree that he's a tuck-shooter? His tuck is much more pronounced than what a Petrovite would do. I know some of you are raving about his swing, but I think he's blocking out too much with the bottom arm, which is slowing down his swing. Comments?

Does anyone know how many 6.00+ vaulters follow the Petrov Model vs. something else?
