I just wanted to send congrats to my wife Dana, for winning her first national title and getting her ticket to athens. It has been a long time coming for her. In 96' she made the olympic team in gymnastics and had her dreams shattered with a dislocated elbow in practice, so congrats baby!!!

Olympic heartbreak turns to elation for pole vaulter Ellis

VICTORIA -- Dana Ellis believes everything happens for a reason. The bubbly pole vaulter from Kitchener, Ont., finally earned her Olympic berth, winning gold at the Canadian Olympic track and field trials at Centennial Stadium yesterday.
It's been a long time coming for Ellis after an injury knocked her out of contention for the 1996 Barcelona Olympics, when she was one of Canada's most promising young gymnasts.
"This is totally like a dream come true," said Ellis, pausing to try to control her tears.
"Especially after missing my chance at a gymnast. I never thought I'd get another shot at it. Somebody really must like me up there, I feel so blessed."
Ellis cleared 4.20 metres to win yesterday, missing on three attempts at 4.44, which would have topped her Canadian record of 4.43.
Kelsie Hendry of Saskatoon took silver, while Stephanie McCann of Regina won bronze.
Ellis and McCann had already made the Canadian Olympic standard and needed just to finish in the top four to secure berths for Athens.
Ellis, who had dreamed of being an Olympic gymnast since she took up the sport at the age of four, was on track for a berth in Barcelona before falling in practice and dislocating her elbow two weeks before the trials.
"I tried hard to tell the doctor I could be better in two weeks but there was no way," Ellis laughed.
Ellis, whose husband Russ Buller is on pace to qualify for the U.S. Olympic team in pole vault, said she's learned plenty from missing out on Barcelona.
"I know now why that happened and why I had to retire from gymnastics because it brought me to pole vault, and my whole mindset now has changed," said Ellis.
"Olympics are amazing, the be-all and end-all of athletics and sport.
"But I tried not to put my whole focus on going because anything can happen. Because there's more to life and more to sport, and I'm just enjoying the experience as I go along."

okay, i'm confused...that article references the 1996 BARCELONA olympics...but i know for a fact that the 96 summer olympics were in ATLANTA...
