OSTRAVA, Czech Republic (CP) - Jamaica sprinter Asafa Powell won the 100 metres at the IAAF Super Grand Prix Golden Spike meet on Thursday, while Dana Ellis of Kitchener, Ont., took second in the women's pole vault.

Pavla Hamackova of the Czech Republic cleared 4.40 metres to win the pole vault, while Ellis jumped 4.30, well off her Canadian-record mark of 4.50 on a cold and rainy day. Powell won in a time of 9.85 seconds despite the weather. His time was the second fastest this year, after his own 9.84 on May 8 in Kingston, Jamaica, but there he didn't race in rain and unusually cold temperatures only slightly above 10 C.
