Interesting to read Rens Blom's comment, as posted by polevaultdad under "live coverage"--

Gold Medallist - Rens BLOM NED

"When I woke up this morning and saw what the weather was like I thought I had a good chance of doing well. Many of the top guys have problems with difficult conditions. This was really my day."

How much trouble did many of the top guys have? Here are the heights of vaulters in the finals, followed by how that height compares to their season's bests:

1 Blom (NED) 5.80/ =
2 Walker (USA) 5.75/ -15cm
3 Gerasimov (RUS) 5.65/ =
4 Pavlov (RUS) 5.65/ -15cm
5 Gibilisco (ITA) 5.50/ -30cm
5 Lobinger (GER) 5.50/ -32cm
5 Hysong (USA) 5.50/ -20cm
8 Sawano (JPN) 5.50/ -33cm
9 Kristiansson (SWE) 5.50/ -11cm
10 Rans (BEL) 5.35/ -25cm
- Ecker (GER) NH/ SB 5.75
- Markov (AUS) NH/ SB 5.75

what I found funny was that the commentators were talking about how much the weather affects the jumpers, "like Brad Walker from the USA who is used to training in perfect conditions all the time"

I'm assuming they didn't know he's from Seattle or are aware of the "beautiful" weather we have out here.....
