Viet Nam’s pole-vaulter breaks Southeast Asian record at national event
10/17/2005 -- 21:50(GMT+7)

Ha Noi (VNA) - Le Thi Phuong from central Thanh Hoa province broke her own Southeast Asian record for women’s pole-vault with a 4.1m jump on October 17 - the first day of the 2005 National Track and Field Championships.

With this result, Phuong is expected to win a gold medal in the pole-vault event at the 23rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, to be held in the Philippines next month, said Hoang Manh Cuong, Vice President of the Viet Nam Athletics Federation.

Another athlete from Thanh Hoa Le Thi Phuong broke her previous record in women’s pole vault. Her new record was 4.10 metres. She succeeded in her second attempt. Her previous record, set up in the Thailand on May 5, 2005, was 4.05 metres. Phuong then tried to jump over 4.20 metres but failed in three attempts.
