Montxu Miranda connection to Petrov?

Anyone know if he has any connections to Petrov or anything? His jump at 5.78m starting at 2:10 is very Petrov-esque (minus a little knee drop). He seems to obviously be slightly less efficient and a bit slower on the runway, but does anyone know of any attempts by Miranda to mirror Petrov/Bubka?

What does everyone think of this jump?

I'm not sure If I would agree- he skip steps his start and really looks like he pressures with his bottom arm at TO which keeps him from timing up with the pole.

As far as the pole carry, and take off position being as tall as possible he is spot on. He also keeps his trail leg generally straight throughout the jump. Those are the influences i see, but i feel like some fundamental ideas are missing, such as his semi-double-legged swing in a few of the jumps, as well as a somewhat broken trail leg in some. He moves his hips really well, but also seems to slow down his jump near the top in order to time his jump up for the pole he was on, especially on the final jump. As far as an influence-yeah thats plausible. But he's got a little work to do.

Is this guy still jumping? The date on the vids was 1998...

The run is curious... The start of it is very Petrovian, but something strange happens at the end of it it seems. I can't quite place it... Does anyone else see what I'm talking about?

The free take-off is there in most of his jumps, but like Robert, I see a good deal of blocking.

The begin of his run is the least petrovian part, with the giddy-up he does. The take off looks weird to you because he takes a pronounced penultimate step to allow such a tall take off angle.

That might be it... I'm not sure... Something about his cadence and knees too though... Not sure.

By the 'start' of his run I meant the first few steps after the skipping, but I guess the vault starts with the FIRST STEP, doesn't it!

He retired years ago. PR was 5.81.

His coach used to participate on the World Wide Pole Vault Web 1.0 back in the day. I'd say that there was a Soviet influence...Dunno if it was Petrov but Gregoriy Yegorov (5.90, '88 OG bronze) has lived in Spain for years and you'll still see his name pop up in Spanish results from time to time.
